Turn it over in your mind's eye.
Two shapes, twelve times: is the second one the first simply rotated — or is it a mirror image that no amount of turning will match? This is mental rotation, the most studied measure of spatial ability, scored on accuracy and speed.
You'll see a reference shape on the left and a candidate on the right. Decide whether the candidate is the same shape rotated, or a mirror image. Work quickly but carefully — the test tracks how long each decision takes, because speed is part of spatial skill. There's no going back once you answer.
Your spatial reasoning
Chance on a two-choice task is 50%, so accuracy is read relative to that floor. Percentiles are approximations — a twelve-item test is a genuine snapshot of mental-rotation skill, not a precise measurement. Spatial ability is also one of the more trainable cognitive skills, so a score is a starting point, not a ceiling.

Method
Same-or-mirror, 12 items
Each candidate is generated as a genuine rotation — or reflection — of the reference, using shapes chosen so the two can never be confused. Every item has an exact right answer computed in geometry, not eyeballed, so your score reflects the real distinction.

You see how many you got right, your median decision time, and an approximate percentile read against the 50% chance floor. Accuracy near chance is flagged and the score withheld — guessing shouldn't look like ability.

What does a mental rotation test measure?
Spatial visualization — your ability to picture an object turning in your mind and compare it to another. It's one of the most studied and job-relevant spatial skills, linked to performance in engineering, design, surgery, and the trades.
How do I tell 'same' from 'mirror'?
A 'same' shape can be turned to match the reference exactly. A 'mirror' shape is flipped — no amount of rotation will line it up, because it's the reference's reflection. Every shape here is chosen so that this distinction is unambiguous.
Why does the test track my speed?
Classic research found that the time to decide rises steadily with the angle of rotation — strong evidence that people really do rotate a mental image, step by step. Faster accurate decisions suggest more fluent spatial visualization, so speed is reported alongside accuracy.
Can spatial skills improve with practice?
Yes — spatial reasoning is among the more trainable cognitive skills. Practice with rotation puzzles, construction, drawing, and certain video games measurably improves it. A single run here is a snapshot; the value is in noticing where you start and whether it moves.
